Illustration of a budget hotel near Dubai airport at night with a shuttle van and a plane landing

My cousin had a 6am flight out of Dubai, and he was coming in from Abu Dhabi the day before.

Rather than have him travel from Abu Dhabi in the middle of the night, I booked him one night at Rove City Centre in Port Saeed, about 3 km from the airport. He woke up at 3am, took the hotel's free shuttle in the morning, and got to the terminal with no tension at all.

That's what a cheap hotel near Dubai airport is really for. Not a holiday, just a clean bed, a short ride and peace of mind before an early flight or after a late landing. I live in Deira, close to the airport, so I've never needed one myself. But I've booked one for family and seen friends use others, and here's what I've learned.

The Short Answer

For a budget stay near Dubai International Airport, look in Deira, especially Port Saeed and Al Rigga. You get lots of hotel choice, metro stations nearby, and Pakistani and Indian food late into the night.

If you're with family and want somewhere quieter for one night, Al Garhoud is a good option. It's calmer and clean, and it sits right next to Terminal 3.

If you're only in transit and not leaving the airport, the hotel inside the airport is the only one that makes sense. More on that below.

Rove City Centre, Port Saeed

This is the hotel I booked for my cousin, so I'll start here.

Rove City Centre is a 3-star hotel in Port Saeed, Deira, about 3 km from the airport. My cousin paid around AED 280 for one night, plus the AED 10 per night Tourism Dirham fee that 3-star hotels charge. For one night before an early flight, it was completely worth it.

The room was small, but clean. For a few hours of sleep, that's all you need.

The real value was the free airport shuttle. It runs around the clock, and my cousin used it early that morning. No taxi to book, no waiting outside in the dark.

It's also close to the metro. Al Rigga and Deira City Centre stations are both within walking distance, so if your flight is during the day, the metro is another cheap option.

Prices change a lot by date. Booking sites list its average weeknight rate at around AED 225, and weekends and peak season cost more. So the AED 280 my cousin paid is a fair guide, but always compare dates.

Premier Inn Dubai International Airport, Al Garhoud

A friend of mine stayed at the Premier Inn Dubai International Airport, and he liked it.

It's in Al Garhoud, directly opposite Terminal 3, which makes it about as close as you can get without staying inside the airport. The hotel runs a free shuttle every 30 minutes between the hotel and Terminals 1 and 3. The metro is around a 10-minute walk away.

My friend's favourite part was his room. He picked a room on the runway side, and he enjoyed watching the planes land. If you're travelling with kids, that alone could make the stay.

One thing to check: Premier Inn's own website notes that the shuttle service may not always run exactly as planned for a period. So message the hotel before you book and confirm the shuttle is running on your dates.

The Hotel Inside the Airport

Dubai International Hotel is located inside the airport, on the upper levels of Concourses A, B and C in Terminal 3.

It sounds perfect, but it's only useful for one type of traveller. It's airside, meaning it's beyond immigration. Your checked luggage can only be collected after you clear customs and immigration, so you only have what's in your hand luggage.

If you're on a long layover and not entering the UAE, it can be a good option. If you're landing in Dubai on a visa and leaving the airport, it's not for you. Book a hotel outside instead.

Which Area Near the Airport Is Best?

Deira, especially Port Saeed and Al Rigga

This is my pick for a budget stay. The metro is close, there are plenty of hotels to choose from, and you can find Pakistani and Indian food late at night. If you land hungry at midnight, that matters.

Al Garhoud

Quieter and cleaner, and right next to Terminal 3. It's a good choice for one night with family, when you want calm more than street life.

Al Qusais

I've never stayed there, so I won't comment on it.

Areas I'd avoid for an airport stay

Business Bay. I stayed there myself on my first trip in 2020. It's far from the airport and expensive, which is the opposite of what you want for a short stopover.

Some very cheap hotels in the lanes of Naif and Murshid Bazaar in Deira look good online, but the rooms can be old and smell of cigarettes. Not every hotel there is like that, but check recent reviews and real guest photos before booking anything that looks too cheap.

Getting From the Airport to Your Hotel

This depends on when you land.

During metro hours, the Red Line stops at Terminals 1 and 3, and it's the cheapest way to reach hotels in Deira. Metro hours are roughly 5am to midnight from Monday to Thursday and on Saturday, 5am to 1am on Friday, and from 8am on Sunday.

That Sunday start time is important. If your flight leaves early on a Sunday morning, the metro won't be running yet, so plan for a shuttle or taxi.

Late at night, the metro is closed. A friend of mine landed at Terminal 1 at 2am, and there was no metro, so he had to take a taxi. The fare to Deira came to around AED 55.

Taxis from the airport start the meter at AED 25, before you've moved. So even a short ride of 3 to 4 km to a nearby hotel can come to AED 40 to 50. That's why a hotel with a free shuttle saves real money.

What I Check Before Booking an Airport Hotel

  • A free shuttle, and whether it's actually running right now. Message the hotel to confirm.
  • 24-hour reception. If you're checking in at 2am, this is essential.
  • A non-smoking room. I always confirm this, especially at budget hotels.
  • The distance to the nearest metro station, for daytime travel.
  • The total price, including the Tourism Dirham and other charges, not just the room rate.

My Advice If You're Landing at Night

Send the hotel your flight number and landing time on WhatsApp before you fly. That way they know you'll check in late, and if they have a shuttle, it can wait for you.

If there's no shuttle, take a taxi only from the official airport taxi line. Don't go with private drivers who approach you outside the terminal.

The Night Before Your Flight

Pick a hotel with a free shuttle, confirm it's running, and send them your flight details. That one small step turned my cousin's 3am wake-up into the easiest part of his trip.

Frequently asked questions

Deira, especially Port Saeed and Al Rigga, has the widest choice of budget hotels near Dubai International Airport. You get metro access, late-night Pakistani and Indian food, and short rides to the terminals. Al Garhoud is quieter and good for families, and it sits next to Terminal 3.
Some do. Rove City Centre in Port Saeed offers a free airport shuttle, which my cousin used for his early flight. Premier Inn Dubai International Airport runs a free shuttle every 30 minutes to Terminals 1 and 3. Always confirm with the hotel that the shuttle is running on your dates.
Yes, at Dubai International Hotel, located airside in Terminal 3. But it's beyond immigration, and you can't collect your checked luggage until you clear customs. It suits long layovers where you're not entering the UAE, not travellers landing in Dubai on a visa.
Airport taxis start at AED 25, so even short rides add up. A 3 to 4 km trip can cost around AED 40 to 50. A friend who landed at Terminal 1 at 2am paid about AED 55 to Deira, because the metro was already closed.
The metro usually opens at 5am from Monday to Saturday, but not until 8am on Sunday. If you have an early Sunday flight, or you land after the metro closes at midnight, plan for a hotel shuttle or an official airport taxi instead.
